Technology description

The solution was presented by a technological scheme based on application of reverse osmosis demineralization. Existing equipment was involved for pre-treatment: sediment, carbon and H-cationite filters, UV disinfection installation.

Sodium hypochlorite is dosed to the feed water, in proportion to the flow, in order to oxidate organic matter and disinfect the water. Then the water flows into the tank, from which it is forwarded to filtration with the use of pumps.

The water undergoes three stages of purification during filtration:

  • sediment filtration at two simultaneously operational quick sand filters with reduction of suspended matter by 60-70%,

  • carbon filtration at two simultaneously operating filters for reduction of active chlorine to the level not exceeding 0.05 mg/L,

  • H-cation exchange to reduce carbonate hardness; hardness drops to 4.5-5 meq/L, alkalinity to 0.4-0.5 meq/L.

At the inlet of the filters and outlet of the carbon, filter monitors are installed to control the concentration of active chlorine. At the outlet of H-cation exchange filters, a monitor is installed which turns off water supply to reverse osmosis installations in the event of a slip of active chlorine higher than the restricted level.

The filtered water is supplied to two simultaneously operating reverse osmosis installations. Each installation includes an antiscalant dosing unit, block of 5-micron filters, high-pressure pump, membrane block with three membrane holders and four reverse osmosis elements Filmtec™ ХLE-440 in each of them, and system of installation control. The set is also completed with installation for chemical cleaning and sterilization of membranes.

The purified water is fed to the tank, from which it is supplied to consumers using the pump station through the UV lamp.

Implementation of the technology provided:

  • purified water of continuously high quality fully corresponding to the customer’s requirements

  • engagement of existing equipment and coordination of its operation with the new equipment, which led to reduction of space occupied by the equipment

  • minimization of operational costs by application of new generation low-pressure membrane elements

  • thanks to appropriate pre-treatment and balanced design of reverse osmosis installations chemical cleaning of membranes is necessary as rarely as 3 times during a year
